Thompson cigar co – Tips on buying the cigar for you

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008
Tip! First of all the cigar tip must be cut. This is best done with a tool well adapted to the task as a pair of cigar scissors or a guillotine cutter.

King Edward VII, President Ulysses S. Grant, Sigmund Freud, Karl Marx… these are names, and not mere names, but names that are huge in history. Could you draw out any difference or any common point among these men? Well, the fact is-they were all heavy cigar smokers. Cigars and men, what is with this pair? In the past, there was that stereotype that only rich males are the ones who smoke cigar. Nowadays, there is no definite line that separates the rich men from the not-so-rich men when it is going to be based with cigar smoking. Any man and today woman could buy and enjoy a stick, sticks or many sticks of cigar. There is one thing certain. There is a difference between the excellent and poor cigar. You must know if that cigar is worth-buying. There are certain tips to follow when buying one. * Observe if the wrapper has smooth and a bit shine feature. Make sure that it does not have blemishes and it must not be too firm. * Give the cigar a gentle squeeze. This way you would be able to determine if indeed it is good enough if it is resilient to hold its shape when you press it. * Refrain from choosing a cigar with soft or hard spots because it is a sign that it is not of good quality and not of good construction. * Try to take a smell of the cigar and if it does not have that aroma, drop it off. * Refrain from buying a lumpy cigar. Yopu could check out if its lumpy or not by giving it a gentle squeeze. Also check the wrapper. Reffrain from picking cigars that have wrapper discoloration. * Make your present more special by adding up a cigar cutter or an ashtray that would impress the receiver. * Give it with sincerity of course. It is fun to hear lines like: “Sometimes, a cigar is just a cigar.” This is according to Sir Sigmund Freud. “A woman is only a woman: but a good cigar is a smoke.” this one is according Sir Rudyard Kipling in his poetry. This only shows how cigar smoking is regarded by men since then. Now, even women are into smoking. Despite all the health hazards, people still go on smoking for no general reason at all. What matters is that smoking must be done with moderation and responsibility. Not merely smoke because you want to show-off your so vcalled “manly’ thing.

Tip! The most important aspect of a cigar humidor is its climate control system. This is what keeps the product fresh, preserving both the look and the taste of the cigars over long periods of time.

There are claims that stress how much cigars are safer to smoke than cigarettes. Well, this is no a fact at all. It just so happened that cigar smokers are only occasional smokers and majority of the smoking population are into cigarettes so the gauge of how cigars is not that obvious. But, it must be known to people that cigars are not safer at all. The following are the reasons that would tell you that the choice of smoking cigar is not lesser evil than smoking cigarettes. * Tobacco is much in amount in cigars than cigarettes. This fact makes cigar much dangerous for as we all know, there are harmful elements found in tobacco. According to studies, a single cigar contains more tobacco than a whole pack of cigarettes. * Experts identified that cigarettes are containing lesser nicotine. Compared with 8 milligrams found in nicotine, cigars have 100 to 200 milligrams. This only shows how much danger cigar could cause over cigarettes. * A single cigar a day increases the possibility of acquiring cancer. Cancer involving the lungs, as well as the pancreas is common for those who are into cigar smoking. * Cigarette smoke is not as toxic as cigar smoke. As what is shown by studies, cigars must undergo fermentation, this stage produces some of the most cancerous elements. Another thing is that the cigar wrappers are less porous compared to that of cigarettes. This has something to do with combustion. Proper combustion decreases the amount of harmful elements of a cigar or cigarette. * For men, cigar smoking is associated with sterility or some problems like erectile dysfunction. The harmful components of a cigar is penetrating much on hormones that may cause this disorder. These are just some of the harmful effects of cigar smoking and how harmful it could get comparing to cigarettes. The issue here is not what to smoke, cigar or cigarettes? He point is that, smoking is not beneficial at all. Yes, you harm yourself and even harm innocent secondhand-smokers.

Small Cigars (Cigar ashtrays)

Tip! Between two years and five years is where most other cigars peak – they become the high school quarterback, the prom queen, the senior class president. The stronger bodied cigars – the Havana Bolivars, for instance – are thought to generally age better over a greater duration of time, and peak during these ‘toddler’ years.

A cigar is just a cigar no matter how big or small. They relatively give the same satisfaction to cigar smokers. Big cigars may be the most sought by the cigar fanatics, but the small cigars are slowly gaining momentum as far as patronage is concerned. Small cigars can provide a quickie smoke for those who need a fix. The satisfaction that small cigars give to those who are constrained by time is incomparable since it gives the same smoking pleasure that cigar smokers get from the big ones. Machine made small cigars are folding in the marketplaces because of the increasing demand of these items. Besides the machine made production of the small cigars is cost efficient which is favorable for the cigar manufacturers because it saves on the cost of cutting long filler just to fit in the size of the small cigars. Cigar companies are basically making use of the shredded tobacco leaves as filler and they also used lesser quality wrapper as they are reserving the beast ones for their big cigars which gives higher revenues once sold in the market. A cigar smoker who tried small cigars may have experienced spitting tiny bits of tobacco leaves. This is the effect of machine made processing, however the pleasure of smoking small cigar is tantamount to smoking big ringer especially if time is not in anyone’s side to do a quickie smoke. The machine made small cigar is friendly on anyone’s pocket too, getting a two’s or three’s won’t hurt anyone’s budget. Hand-rolled small cigars are totally tempting. Any cigar that is hand-rolled by an expert cigar roller is sure to give the delight that any cigar smoke lover wants. Small cigar that goes under the craftsmanship of an age-old tradition in rolling cigar promises a better smoking experience. This cigar is the bet option for those who can’t afford to smoke the big ones because they are constrained by time. Smoking the big and longer cigars usually takes more time, so the small ones give the same pleasure that the big ones do. Hand-rolled cigars whether they are big or small are usually pricier than the machine made. But smoking a hand rolled is worth the price. The experience is totally wonderful that anyone who is up for a great smoking experience will surely find ways to afford one. Because of the increasing demand for small cigars, many cigar companies are up to the challenge of giving the best cigar wrapped in small packages yet give the same smoking satisfaction. More and more brands are being introduced that any cigar lover can take a pick from. The bandwagon of small cigar smoking is getting bigger and still accommodating many enthusiasts who want to get a cigar smoking joyride of a lifetime.

Honduran Cigars (Thompson cigar)

Tip! Once the cigar is lit, and take off has commenced, let the smoke wallow near your mouth, drinking in the aroma and the flavor. Gently puff on the cigar, instead of inhaling like a cigarette.

Roatan, and San Pedro Sula have one thing in common. They all belong to a Central American country, Honduras that was badly beaten by its political history, economic plight and sometimes the havoc that brought by hurricane in the past years. Roatan is a vacationer’s paradise especially those who are on a cruise, San Pedro Sula is the home of the tobacco growers of Honduras. Honduras is considered as one of the poorest countries in Central America, one of the many countries that are indebted from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. The country may seem to be synonymous with poverty, crime and political unrest, which brought probably make the people of Honduras divided, however if there is one thing that can unite the people of Honduras that would be their cigars. Honduran cigars are fast becoming a household name in all homes on the U.S. since cigars from Cuba are banned from entering the country, an offspring of the U.S.’ sanctioned trade embargo against Cuba. In some European countries, Honduran cigars are slowly gaining prominence among cigar aficionados. Some Honduran cigars found its roots from Cuba. When Fidel Castro dictated that all businesses in Cuba, including the tobacco industry shall be under the government’s rein, many Cuban and American tobacco growers were stripped off their rights to operate their businesses under the communist rule. Some of the tobacco farmers from Cuba chose to settle this neighboring country in this side of the Caribbean, thus the Honduran cigars were born. One of the pioneers of Honduran cigars is Frank Llaneze, the proud owner and President of Honduras’ pillar in tobacco industry, the Honduran-American Tobacco S.A. (H.A.T.S.A.). Llaneze was responsible for giving the tobacco industry a new name to reckon with. He sought ways in coming a new mix of Havana tobacco by experimenting it with other tobacco species from other Caribbean countries, just before Cuba ran out of tobacco at the height of the Cuban revolution. After numerous attempts he successfully blended tobacco seeds from Cuba and Connecticut and grew them in the fertile soil of Honduras. Today, H.A.T.S.A. is the producer of famous cigar brands like Excalibur, Hoyo de Monterrey and Punch which American cigar connoisseurs love. Honduran cigars are famous for their full-bodied flavor, which is a combination of nuts and wood, topped with its aroma of spicy and woody finish. A toast of red wine will never be without a stick of Honduran cigar. Honduran cigars are at par with their Havana predecessor. Now that those Cuban cigars are sold in black market, making it harder to purchase the goods, Honduran cigars give as much enjoyment that American tobacco lovers get from their Havana. There is no denying that Honduras is one of the poorest countries in the world, but it has one of the riches that not too many nations of the world own. In the near future Honduras will redeem itself as the tobacco capital of the world and will erase its name as one of the world’s poorest.

Tip! Before cutting it make sure that the cigar is moist enough. Ideally you would have taken the cigar from you humidor where the conditions are perfect for keeping cigars.

Miami is one of the most popular places in Florida. Visitors and locals alike troop to the famous Miami Beach and get mesmerized by the sight of famous celebrities sitting beside each other, enjoying their tan. Cigar aficionados who happen to visit Miami will surely want to find out where Mike’s Cigars is located. Mike’s Cigars is not just your ordinary store in Miami, Florida much less with cigar connoisseurs. It is a landmark in this Sunshine State, in fact one of the most striking pieces you will see once you gaze your eyes around. It provides everything you need about cigars once you are in this part of the country. Mike’s Cigars partly became what it is today when way back in 1950, a Brooklyn lad set foot on Florida and put up his business. This once a pushcart peddler boy became the icon in cigar retail industry in Florida. The other part of Mike’s Cigars’ success is due to the unwavering passion of this Cuban-born fellow, Oscar Barouchin, whom Mike met in 1982 and promised to transfer the company to Barouchin just when he retired. Mike and Oscar collaborated to distribute famous brands of cigars. The company pioneered the mail-order cigar for those cigar lovers that are located away from Florida. During Oscar’s rein as the big boss of Mike’s Cigars, he commissioned, Manolo Quesada, an expert tobacco farmer and hand-rolled cigar maker from the Dominican Republic, a country that is also famous for its own brand of cigars. Since Macanudo was the famous brand in America tow decades ago, that Mike’s Cigars sold both in retail and wholesale, Barouchin ordered Manolo to produce a cigar that has the same flavor and taste with macanudo. The Licinciados was the name they gave to that cigar. Currently, the Licinciados brand sold close to a million every year. Another brand that Mike’s Cigars acquired through the years was Bauza. They bought this brand from Fuente, famous cigar manufacturer. Fuente is one of the best producers of high-premium cigars in the market. Mike’s is also selling Flor Del Cano brand, which is an old Cuban cigar. Other brands are Puros San James and King David. Due to the increasing demand brought by competition, Mike’s has just put up their own website where cigar patron can order online. The store is selling only cigars and nothing but cigars. The other challenge that the company is facing right now, is the possibility of the U.S. lifting its ban on all products from Cuba inclining cigars, though that concern will have to take some more years before it could actually happen. As of now Mike’s Cigars is enjoying a tremendous benefit of the popularity of their own cigar brands. That alone is something to make the company get busy.
