Tobacco is the source of cigar which is one of the must-haves of males and even females especially in this modern times. History tells that cigar smoking was common in the Latin American region which includes countries such as Brazil, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua. Same with Cameroon, Honduras, Indonesia and it includes Cuba and the United States of America. These are also areas where a large quantity of tobacco was grown at first. Christopher Columbus is said to be the first to introduce cigar in Europe. Ages after, cigar smoking has been having this association with masculinity, high social status, liberalism- that makes cigar an interesting part of a special smoker’s habits. In special occasions, it could be a good form of present for a friend, a colleague, a boss, a patner… How do one buy a good cigar for a present? * Find out stores specifically smoke specialty stores that sell a great selection of cigars including those which are extraordinary. Make sure not to neglect cigar quality. * Consider the smoking experience of the person you would want to give your present to. This would determine if the size and diameter of the cigar would suit his or her taste. The cigar diameter is directly proportional to the richness of the flavor. Cigars that are bigger in diameter and richer in taste are more appropriate for “experienced” smokers. For “greenhorn” smokers, longer cigarettes with cooler smoke is commendable. * See to it that the cigar is of good quality and that it is made of one hundred percent tobacco. Some cigars are more of the non-tobacco components like paper, glycerine or saltpeter. * Refrain from buying a lumpy cigar. Yopu could check out if its lumpy or not by giving it a gentle squeeze. Also check the wrapper. Reffrain from picking cigars that have wrapper discoloration. * Make your present more special by adding up a cigar cutter or an ashtray that would impress the receiver. * Give it with sincerity of course. There is nothing wrong with cigar smoking. Just see to it that it is being done in moderation.

When we speak of renaissance, Tuscany in Italy would easily come to mind. Tuscany is the birthplace of the famous Renaissance Era. It is a period of opening to the new broad spectrum of ideas as opposed to the philosophy of the Dark Ages. Tuscany is not just a beautiful place fit for a vacation getaway; it is also the place of the famous brand of cigars—the Toscano cigars. A little bit of history Who would have ever thought that the plantation of tobacco can reach as far as Italy, when many thought that the islands of the Caribbean is the breeding ground of the finest tobacco leaves or so we thought. Toscano cigars are distinct European cigars that boasts of its own unique taste and as enormous a flavor and aroma as Tuscany. The Europeans can only thank Christopher Columbus for his effort of bringing the seeds to this part of the earth after he visited Cuba, where he saw the natives puffing smokes of the rolled tobacco leaves. When the tobacco reached the European continent it was used as medicine, which many believed that it cured certain diseases. A little bit of the present As the popular saying that goes, “toscano never cheats” is apt a brand for toscano cigars because they are rolled according to its natural shape. Every toscano cigar does not undergo molding procedure unlike the common cigars from the Caribbean wherein they are pressed using a cigar molder in order to achieve the desired shape. Some famous toscano cigars are the Moro, which measures 230mm while the diameter of its belly is 20mm, and the foot diameter reaches up to 13mm. The Moro weighs 19.5g of pure tobacco. The Toscano Originale has length that measures 158mm and spans a width of 39 inches. In every packet of Toscano Originale there are only two cigars inside. However the Toscano Originale Selected has 30 cigars in every pack. There are other kinds of Toscano Cigars available like the Garibaldi, Toscano Antica Riserva, Ammezzati Garibaldi, Antico Toscano, and Toscani Extra Vecchi. The width of these cigars range from 35-38 inches while the length 75, 80 and 150mm. Maledetto Toscano This is a group of individuals that has a passion fro excellent food, vintage wines, and great smokes. They spearheaded great fun and pleasure among their peers through themed gastronomic affairs coupled with a toast of wine and a puff of toscano cigars. It practically wanted to promote the Tuscan cigar to the world hoping that it would equal in patronage to those coming from the Caribbean. Surely, Tuscany has plenty to be proud of, its place, people, history and its cigar.

Handmade Cigars (Cigar art)

Friday, January 11th, 2008
Tip! The most important aspect of a cigar humidor is its climate control system. This is what keeps the product fresh, preserving both the look and the taste of the cigars over long periods of time.

When it comes to cigars, nothing can beat the handmade. Cigars that underwent from the hands of a skilled craftsman always guarantee of a pleasurable smoke, which the machine made, could not match. Handmade cigars is not a just a work of art, it is a product of patience and passion. Patience because making handmade cigars is not that easy and fast, it will take some time before the final product is ready for packing. Passion because, the makers of handmade cigars have poured so much time to improve their craft, and have shed blood and tears just to make the best cigar there is in the world. It has become their pride more than a job. But just how do these handmade cigars are made? You want to know how? Not take a look and be amazed of the wonders behind handmade cigars. After harvesting the finest tobacco leaves, the leaves are first cured. This is done in order to release the sugar content and the remaining water in the tobacco leaves at the same time protecting the leaves from decomposing. Curing process can take up to 4-6 weeks the most and also pending on the kind of the tobacco leaves, the color intended for the leaves to achieve. The second phase of the process is the fermentation stage wherein the cured leaves are subjected to a controlled temperature and relative humidity. During fermentation, the flavor, aroma and other characteristics of a fine tobacco are reached. Once the tobacco leaves had aged gracefully, they will be classified according to their use, whether as a filler, binder, or wrapper. Even during at this stage the tobacco leaves are still carefully watched to ensure that they still have the moist required to avoid decay. At this time also the leaves will have to undergo continuous baling again and again until the desired maturity of the leaves is obtained which will make it ready for the actual making of the cigars by hands. Now that the leaves are primed for rolling, they are brought to the table of the master blender. They will be sorted according to the desired color and shape. Each color and shape requires different blends of tobacco leaves. A master blender with an extensive training in choosing tobacco can identify which leaf goes with another leaf in order to achieve a perfect blend. After choosing the tobacco leaves the master blender will bring the blended tobacco to the workstation of the master roller. This is the time for the master roller to unleash his or her skills in rolling the tobacco fillers into different shapes, after which a binder tobacco leaf is wrapped around the blended filler to hole them together. With the help of a specified molder, the rolled tobacco will be pressed in order to get the desired shape. Wrapping another tobacco leaf around the rolled tobacco to give it a smooth and clean finish does the final touches. The finish product is yet to undergo another aging process before they are sold to the market. The process of making cigars by hands is not that really easy. It takes patience and passion. No wonder they are the most expensive pieces.
